Timber Ridge’s “Green” Building Standards
Are Unique Among Senior Living Communities
As a result of careful and thoughtful design, Timber Ridge at Talus stands out among most senior living communities. Its adherence to nationally established “green” building standards makes it one of only a handful of such communities in the U.S. to apply for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification.
In initial focus groups, we asked prospective residents to tell us what they wanted in an ideal community. The importance of environmentally friendly construction, operation and maintenance was repeatedly emphasized.
As a result, Timber Ridge has been designed to offer enhanced comfort and healthier living conditions, as well as environmentally responsible conservation and protection.
Key Benefits of Living in a “Green” Building
Improved Health & Comfort
- Fresh-air ventilation and filtration systems assure better air quality and dramatically reduce the risk of sickness due to airborne viruses or bacteria.
- Better moisture control and lots of natural light help prohibit mold and other contamination problems.
- Efficient thermal control and enhanced insulation provide more even, year-round temperatures and improved noise reduction for a quieter, more comfortable atmosphere.
- Low-emitting finishes (adhesives, paint, carpeting) and “green” housekeeping practices also prohibit toxic air contaminants.
Lower Costs Resulting from Conservation
- Recycled building materials, reduction of waste, optimal building dimensioning and higher-efficiency HVAC systems lower energy consumption and reduce operational and maintenance costs, keeping monthly resident fees lower.
- More durable building standards result in fewer repairs and lower lifecycle costs, which in turn, mean lower resident investment expenses over time.
- Energy consumption is also often 20-25% less than in traditional homes, as are utility bills.
More Beautiful, Protected Natural Surroundings
- Natural landscaping techniques promote bio-diversity and utilize hardy, low-maintenance native vegetation.
- Integrated (organic) pest management reduces chemical pesticide pollution.
- Underground parking areas eliminate excessive stormwater runoff and are preferable to blacktop surface areas that create heat islands, which disrupt the microclimate.
- Soft, environmentally sensitive exterior lighting avoids disruption of nocturnal wildlife and bird migration.
